Though the source of inspiration for my work is based in the landscape,
I work mostly in the studio drawing on memory and sensory impressions
gathered from different places I've lived and visited. This way of working
allows me to focus on expressing my inner experience of outer nature.

After many years of looking at the land and sky to create illusions of it
I am now more interested in playing with form and materials to give a total
effect of landscape or nature as I experience it. Light, color, movement,
weather and seasons become the subject matter. An illusion of space has
given way to an implied space, one that is arranged and felt in almost a
childlike manner.

Paintings are begun with the slimmest of intentions and in the process I discover
odd relationships and unexpected color harmonies. A lot of time is spent looking
at the painting and allowing it to develop slowly. In the drawings and prints
thoughts and feelings about nature are often expressed in a surrealist language.

I see a random and beautiful quirkiness in how Nature places things in
the world and I enjoy making images in that same spirit.
